Front cover: possible ideas:
An idea for the front cover will only contain one inage. this will create a effect of the main and only image dominate.

contents page: possible ideas:
For this page i thought there could many small images of more solo acts or bands. Because this is the page that directs the viewer to there wanting page, they will make the page more interesting and more packed.
double page spread: possible ideas:
For these two pages there would be more photo's then the front cover of the magazine. I thought this could make the pages more fun to look at and incurage the audience to read the story.

slogan:

At the bottom of the magazine will be the slogon for the logo of the magazine. It will go below the masthead in a small size font.

masthead line:

Above the line will be white. This will cute the image and stop it from taking over the page. Making it better to see the text.

cover line stories :

A few Cover lines will go down the page in noticeable fonts.

The Main Image:

Here taking the space above the masthead. The main image will be two people that fit in into the genre. the background can be something hard to also fit in.

Rise magazine:

i found this magazine from the internet. i felt now that i am at the stage of thinking about how i would set up my magazine . for the front cover i would love to create somthing that is similia to this magazine. even though it is a tattoo i get the vision of a music magazien from it.

the reason why i love it so much is that it is different from other magazine i have studied up to now.

the masthead stands out more in the center position, it seems to be bigger than the other information on the page. whats different about this page is how the price, date and barcode are at the top of the page with the masthead instead of at the bottom of the page like normal magazines, this could leave more room for cover stories and more information for the magazine.

a similia layout to this for my magazine would be great for the name "DIFFERENTTO!"

the image for this layout is the same as any other magazine. simple. as you would see in any other magazine. a couple standing together, dressed in the genre of the magazine. i feel that i could change the image for my magazine. still keeping the main image to be one or more person but make it more fun, trying to make my magazine more fun and different than other magazines.

target audience

after studying different magazines, i thought it would be best to now decide on my target audience. the three magazines i have studied seems to be mostly for intellectual people, this can be proved as most of the text inside are more than 3 sylibles long for each word.
i would like to follow in using big terms that young adults would understand as i have now 3 magazines to inspire me.
the genre for my audience, i would like to go with a rock genre. this is because i would have more to speak of and to include in my magazine. this genre is one of the genre's i have mostly studied and has been said that the rock genre is one of the most sold magazines.
since i have tageted my audience around young adults, around the age of 17 -25's, the price can be offered over the price of £2. this would be because that this age, thy would be students or in jobs, being able to afford without having to ask parents for money.

MF Magazine:

Image:

The image for this magazine takes up the full cover. Using only the one image, it is hard to understand that this is a music magazine at all. It shows me more fashion than anything else.

text:

Again there isnt that much to show that this is a music magazine. The colour text over a black and white photo seems like a great combination and brings out a good effect but there isnt that much.

The writng the the side doesnt seem to show more of whats inside the magazine.

The font looks hand written which is good but only for the target audience of girls.

colour:

Again i would have to say that there isnt that much to the magazine, also in the area of colour. I do think that it would be a good idea to place a colour font onto a black and white photo. For my magazine, if i went with this idea i would make sure that the colour stands out more, like in the Kerrange magazine.

the layout:

I would think that this magazine has also gone for the simple layout, just like how Q magazine has. Although i think the creatures for this magazine have made a bit to simple as they havnt put much onto the page. Also, jus like they have used the one image in the Qmagazine, this magazine is different as they have used this one image to take up the full page but still leaving the women in the image to be the main focus of the magazine.

Q-MAGAZINE!!!

This magazine is one of the best selling, and told one of the best music guide. inside this magazine, there are more information of CDs DVDs Radio and books. Inside the magazine, they also show interviews and dates for many gigs.

the image :

This magazine is different to the kerrang magazine, there are not that many images on the cover, leaving lots of place. This makes the magazine seem more simple.

The main and only image in this cover s a very well known band looking directly into the camera, again inviting people into the magazine.

text:

The headlines for he cover stories arethe samecolour as the logo background. This makes it seem like the editors are keeping to a colour scheme.

There is much to this text than were in the kerrange magazine Which shows there isnt much desriction about the magazine. (but this old be a good)

colour:

Again i see that this magazine has kept to a simple colour scheme. red makes some of the text stand out. An example wouldbe the little box in the corner of the cover, explaining and showing how they are displaying 175 albums.

layout:

Also in this magazine the layout is placed in a simple form. the simple form for the layout seems to make more negative space. This could be a good thing as now the white background stands out to the buyers.

kerrang!!!

The Kerrang! magazine is known for being a rock genre magazine. Selling information about bands, shows and interviews. Plus they also advertise many companys to do with fashion, music and much more. Also the fact that they have their own comic strip i would say that this magazine has much to sell.

For this magazine, there appears to be more than one photo. But the audience can tell that the lead singer for green day is the main star for this issues cover.

The fact that he is directly looking into the camera gives the effect that he is inviting people into the magazine.

The other little pictures seem to take up most space on the page. This seems to show how there are lots to talk about using the audience favorite bands.

this rule also goes for the contents page. there is one main image dominating the page. then below there are more leading the reader to the page which holds their favouriate celebs.

text:

The text for this magazine seems to glow all over the front cover. It is shown around the page in many colours that seem to glow of the page, as though it is trying to be noticed.

for the contents page, the page is moslty busy with text, this is not only to show that reader which page they want but also introducing new readers to the magazine in total, i think this is a really good idea to include to my magazine.

colour:

The colours in this cover seem to glow, i think the two colours pink and yellow work very well together as they are both almost contrasting. Another part of the cover that constrast that they use is the logo.

reading through the pages, the colour scheme has stuck to the colour black and yellow, these two coloures together stand out really well and attracts the readers very effective.

The layout for this magazine is busy. There seems to be many stuff place everywhere on the page leaving no space for negative space.

are all the parts that make a magazine, the languge in the magazine is what helps gets the message across to the audience. the language is the one part or L.I.I.A.R that we mostly look out for in termanology.

new brief - music magazine

Preliminary exercise :
using DPT an an image manipulation program, produce the front page of a new music magazine. using the conventions of a magazine. there has to be a main image. there must be a cover stories and masthead.

main task:
to create an outcome of a front page with one or more images, a masthead, cover stories which all must be orignial and produced be me.

evaluation

for my project, i was given the task of creating a front cover for a college magazine.
my first task was to research. for this project i had to research many things like the codes and conventions for both the front cover and a context page, the difference between a college magazine and a fashion magazine and i created a mood board for inspiration of the college. i was told that i would have to create a blog and this would be where all my work would be shown.
with this research i was able to start my planning. firstly i had to create hard copies of a plan for the front cover and the context page. this helped with arranging my magazine.
the picture i used was a student that agreed to be on my front cover. in the photo i took, it seems like he is rather shocked or excited to see something which goes great with the main cover story. the disadvantage for this photo is that it was taken with a bad choise of camera, so now the photo seems to be filled with grainness.
the font for the main cover story is similar to the masthead, the difference i used was the type of font. for the main cover story, the font seems more handwritten and for me, goes well with the "secret".
the price for this magazine came to an conclusion of both college and the price of a normal magazine. at a estimate of a normal fashion magazine that i have studied is £3 but college magazines are normally free. thats hwo i came up with the price of £1.20.
overall, the outcome of my magazine has come out better than i thought, i wished the photo could of come out better but it also matches the excitment that i hope the audience will notice.

the fonts

i thought for the fonts that i would stick with the colours of the college logo which is purple. i wouldn't use the same font as the college has but i have gone similar. again i have used photoshop to work with the fonts puttin in shadows, emboss and bevel.

here is the photo i used for the front cover of my magazine. the photo is one of my friends in the class. i went on photoshop to remove the background and put a gradient there to get rid of the negative space.

i found two video's and thought about watching again to help me with the project. they explain the process of making a magazine using photoshop and showing the effects that this software can make.

the software i thought i could use to create my magazine would be photoshop and publisher. i chose these programs as i know how to use it more and could be used for better effects. and publisher being one of the dtp programs.

for one lesson i have thought about what stories i would put down on my front cover and my context page. the ideas that i hav now come up with are:

• red nose day ... how are we celebrating ???

there will have to be more stories for the context page as i have come up with an estimate of 9-10 stories

looking through the Internet i found this cover for a magazine called ele Canada. i thought i could write down and deconstruct a few things that are important for a magazine to have on their front covers.

the masthead

a masthead for a magazine is usually found at the top of the page. this displays the name of the magazine so this heading is always important. the masthead is the visual branding of the title and is done in a way that is reconisale for he viewer. the masthead for this magazine is a huge and simple font yet very effective. although this font is sharp, it still brings in an audience of women. I've seen that this font has been used for many other women's fashion magazine.

dateline and bar code selling

this part of the magazine shows the year, month and day of the magazine. putting the date of the sale for the magazine helps people to go back to any issue if they have to. the bar codes for any magazine are there to help retailers sell the magazine.

the main image

for most female magazines, i have noticed on how most of the covers show a close up photo of one women mostly being a modal. looking at the camera. is this a way of drawing their target audience, which in this case, would be women. for this cover, the image shows a famous star named Avril Lavign. and shes posing for the front of a fashion magazine, making out that she is the main story for this issue. this could draw in many fans more than the usually readers.

also, with this cover, not only the layout for this magazine could be sold out to their target audience. they have set around a simple theme which comes out with a big effect. many things on this cover still stand out with the deconstruction.
